Plastic Fenders… Nah

Time for some metal splash catchers! I decided to get rid of the factory plastic fenders and go with a set of Barricade Tubular fenders from Extreme Terrain. The factory fenders were surprisingly easy to remove with just a few bolts in the front and plastic clips for front and rear. Cleaned up the grime the old fenders hid and started the install process. Let’s just say the fit on these new fenders SUCKED! I had to reshape the front fender anchor tab near the headlight to account for the taper of the grille – funny, you would have thought Barricade would do this. The rear fenders had to be nut riveted into place… what’s a nut rivet you ask… well it’s threaded nut thingie that fits a drilled hole in sheet metal and is crimped to the edge of the hole to create a new threaded location to add a bolt. So essentially I had to drill holes in my new Jeep to allow the new fenders to replace the factory fenders – ugh. I used the Astro 1442 Hand Rivet Tool to insert the nut rivets. Oh well, fenders are on – Jeep looks beast mode!
