With the Jeep setup coming along we decided to go check out another off-road park near Gilmer, Texas. Barnwell Mountain ORV Park is a little over 2 hours from the house, however with a Bucee’s Travel Station at the halfway point, the drive is not that bad. If you are planning to frequent Barnwell ORV I highly recommend becoming a member of the Texas Motorized Trail Coalition. This organization assists with trail maintenance at parks, and provides members with discounts to parks within the TMTC program. An annual membership cost is recouped with savings from just 2 visits to Barnwell. We invited a few friends out with us for this rookie experience. Steven Lamb and his daughter Bailey, Richard Lamb and his daughter Kathy. Steven brought a SxS UTV, and Richard drove his T1 style Toyota Tundra. We dropped some air pressure from the tires and hit the trails. It was a great day of wheeling with friends. The Tundra hung with the Jeep on all trails it tried, and the UTV was unstoppable. The girls decided to take one last spin in the UTV before load out. Little did we know they had dropped a GPS pin on a mud hole and wanted a high speed pass through the mud. When they cam back they were covered in red East Texas mud, and grinning from ear to ear. Bailey had to shower at Barnwell in order to make it to a soccer team dinner without looking like a kid from Rednecks with Paychecks! Barnwell will be a continual player in the dirt getaways.
