Today was thrown together mid-week with my friend Steven wanting to take his SxS out to get dirty. His son Brendan had not had an opportunity to ride along on the trails, so we headed east for a day trip. Barnwell is still one of my favorite Texas spots to ride trails. We got to the park around 9:30 and unloaded, aired down, and hit the trails. Brendan was having a blast, but wanted to ride along in the big Jeep. We cinched him in the back seat and hit some more aggressive trails while his dad followed in the SxS. One of our most memorable moments of off-roading will have to be when we were climbing a trail called Spider Ravine and the Jeep lost traction and moved over on the trail to the passenger side, the side where Brendan was buckled in. Keeping in mind we didn’t have the doors on the Jeep and you could literally reach out and touch the dirt on the edge of the trail. When the Jeep came to a stop while we reset lines to improve traction we hear Brendan in the back say “Please not today Jesus, I am too young!” We got a huge laugh while reassuring him that this was a normal thing and all was good in Jeep land. After another trail or two Brendan passed out in the back seat for a nap. Turned out to be a great day, and we actually met up with some other friends that were camping and hanging out for the weekend.
