When riding on the trails it is very unlikely for us to have a rear seat passenger. And with the seats in and the spare inside the Jeep it is very difficult to stow things, even with the seats folded down. I decided to try something that I saw on one of the Poison Spyder trail rigs and really liked the idea. The project started with the MasterCraft Safety brand rear bench seat bracket for the JKU. Since the MasterCraft bracket kit creates a nice level mount for their bench seats, why not use it for a deck. After the mount was installed I added a 3/4 inch piece of Baltic birch that is covered in outdoor black carpet from Home Depot. Plenty of storage above and below (which I didn’t have with seats folded down). We wheeled this setup for the first time at Bridgeport Endeavor OHV Park and it worked like a champ!

Is it at all level with the rear of the Jeep where it could be used as a sleep platform ?
The brackets I used are from Mastercraft and are designed for a harness bench, or for individual multi point harness seats. With that in mind, the bracket top is close to flush with the rear tub deck behind the seats. When adding the Birch decking on top of the brackets, the seat portion of the decking is about 7/8 inch taller than the tub deck so you do end up with a lip of sorts where the seats stop and the tub begins (but no gap to fall in). My guess is you could build up the back piece to level, or use an air bed and you may not ever notice the difference. Hope this helps.
Thank you for the information !!
