LT Swap – Day 3

Today is prep for engine pull day. Most of the work today will be under the Jeep and in the fender wells so no timelapse video. Started this morning by removing the catalytic converters on both sides. The fun side was the passenger side because I had to remove the front upper control arm to get the exhaust bits down beyond the frame.

After the exhaust was removed and out of the way I started working on transfer case linkage and removing the transfer case. Since I took the driveshafts out yesterday, I had more room to maneuver around the front and back of the t-case. I removed the transmission mount from the cross member and rested the transmission down on a small block of wood laying on the cross-member. The cross member was switched several years ago to a heavy-duty Artec rectangular cross-member. This allowed for my skids to bolt up completely flush on the bottom of the Jeep. Not sure just yet, but it looks like I might be losing my oil pan skid with the swap. Won’t know the details until the new motor mounts are in, and the engine is in place.

With the transfer case out from under the Jeep, about the only thing left is to double-check all harness points to make sure nothing is pulled out when I start to yank the engine. There is not much room with the 3.6 on the mounts so I am sure something will appear after the engine starts to move.

For sale! Rubicon RockTrac MP241 4:1 Transfer Case – $1100. Pulled at 46,900 miles in working order from a 2014 JKU with automatic transmission. HMU – whenjeepislife@gmail.com
