JK E-brake Shoe Replace Tip

I hear of people complaining that their emergency brake is not holding well and they want to replace the e-brake shoes due to wear. If you get into this situation, I would like to offer a tip. This tip is more costly than simply replacing the brake shoes however the time saving and ease of install are well worth the extra expense (IMHO).

First of all, to work on the emergency brake system on the JK you will likely have to remove your axle shafts in order to remove the shoe return tension springs. I highly recommend purchasing the emergency brake system already assembled on the flange adapter ($80). When the axle shaft is removed you can simply remove the entire old e-brake assembly and slap in the new assembly and slide the axle back in. Less than an hour to replace and adjust both sides with this method. Now you have easy access to the removed old e-brake assembly. You can decide to toss it, or do a deep clean and replace the shoes and keep it on hand for the next e-brake repair on the JK. This is also a handy assembly to keep in the parts crate for those long trips in the rocks.
