Switch-Pros SP-9100 – Part 1

While tearing apart the Jeep to do the Gen V swap, I noticed I did a really poor job of previous electrical planning in the Jeep. During the process of installing the interior harness for the swap, I pulled miles of confusing, poorly implemented, accessory wires out from under the dash. During the excavation process, I removed the Mopar transmission controller, uConnect module, and factory radio amplifier to make extra room. Now that all the wires to all my accessories were missing, it was time to rethink the installation game and how to manage the new clean install. Enter the Switch-Pros SP-9100. I have always been reluctant to get into the solid-state phone app-controlled switch solutions, however, after numerous positive reviews about Switch-Pros Power System, so I thought I’d give it a try.

The main controller piece is not very big, yet houses a ton of features and even more per switch capability than most larger install solutions. The 8-switch panel is very small in my opinion and will fit nicely on my windshield bar where my old TrailDash 2 used to live. I mounted the main controller where the Jeep e-locker relays are on the passenger side fender support near the firewall. With the controller tucked in I was able to route the wiring harness for switch leads and ignition control under the TIPM. The plan will be to keep all the wiring junctions under the Jeep fuse panel and route the new accessory wires along the existing factory harnesses. New accessory wires will be split-loomed or cable-sleeved for protection.

In order to get the 8-switch panel to mount to the roll bar, I had to create a mounting plate that would screw onto the back of the panel and house a ball mount for the roll bar attachment. I am currently running a 67 designs 1.75 inch roll bar ball mount (old TrailDash2 mount), so I modeled my mounting plate to work there. 67 Designs sells a really cool mount plate for the SP-9100 that attaches to the roll bar ball mount, but it was out of stock. When out of stock, we make our own. I used a piece of 1/8 inch aluminum stocks and drilled the necessary holes, and voila!

I will have to follow up with part 2 to this write up because I cannot connect the panel to the controller until the Jeep is ready to have the key accessory power turned back on and wake from its long slumber.
